Maintaining a safe school environment is very important. We are located in a highly visible area of town with heavy traffic on the Youree Drive corridor. Therefore, in an effort to insure the safety of all children, visitors are required to first go to the office to sign in, obtain permission to be on campus, and receive a visitor’s badge. Thank you for your cooperation and your assistance in providing a safe environment for your child and all the children attending our school. Traffic SafetyA. C. Steere is located on a corner surrounded by three busy streets: Youree Drive, Ockley and Grover. We stress traffic safety with our students. All students are to use the cross walks when crossing Grover, Ockley or Youree Drive. If you park across the street from the school, please make sure your child understands which crosswalk you want him or her to use. The school PTA worked very hard several years ago to secure three crossing guards for our children...Please use them! Parents are to use the Grover Street circle for loading and unloading of children. For purposes other than loading and unloading children, please use the parking lot by the gym. PLEASE DO NOT USE THE STAFF PARKING LOT FOR LOADING AND UNLOADING STUDENTS. The Annex Building on Youree Drive houses our special programs including our Preschool Gateway. Parking is reserved for staff and preschool drop-off and pick-up only. Neither lot is to be used by other grade levels for any purpose including loading and unloading children. Children must exit and will only be loaded from the right side of the car. This is for your child's safety. Please have your child exit and enter the car quickly and safely. Procedures for ArrivalChildren should report to school between 7:40 and 8:00 am. No student should arrive before this time, as supervision is not provided. On arrival, students should go to their designated areas. All children are to report to their homerooms by 8:00 am. Tardy students must check-in through the office. Lunch money will be paid in the cafeteria by tardy students. Procedures for DismissalEveryone must enter the carpool circle from Ockley St onto Grover St. No cars will be allowed to enter the carpool circle from Atlantic St. Grover Street is a one-way only street between the hours of 2:30pm - 3:30pm, Monday through Friday. Please enter safely from Ockley Street. All students who are picked up in the carpool circle will receive a carpool tag. Please hang your carpool tag from your rearview mirror everyday. Pre-K, Kindergarten and First grade children will receive a red carpool tag. This tag may be used if you are ONLY picking up Pre-K, Kindergarten or First grade children. Parents with red tags may enter the carpool circle at 2:45pm. When the carpool circle is full, please remain in one line until the duty teacher motions for you to come around. After 3:00pm, red tag cars must remain in line with all other cars. If you do not have a red tag, please be considerate and don't line up before 2:45pm. Please do not block the crosswalk near the carpool circle; it MUST be used when crossing the street. Please pull up as far as possible; this will allow for maximum loading. We will call for your child and send them down to you. Once your child is loaded, you may pull into the passing lane, and go around cars waiting to be loaded. At 3:15pm, all students remaining at carpool will be brought to the office. Please be on time; picking your child up after 3:15pm is NOT an option! A parent or guardian MUST come into the office to sign the child out. Walkers of all ages are dismissed at 3:00 and immediately walk home. Teachers are on duty to clear the campus. All bicycles are to be parked in the bicycle rank and should be locked. Bicycles are not to be left overnight. At the beginning of the school year students in grades Kindergarten through Second are tagged indicating how they get home (walk, car, school bus, or daycare bus). Lists of bus and daycare riders are compiled and placed on file in the office. These lists are given to each homeroom teacher and all duty teachers. Each teacher maintains information on how students get home. Parents are asked to send a note if there is to be a change in how their student gets home. Parents may call in a change if necessary. A student may not ride a bus to a friend’s house to play. A student may not get off at a bus stop other than his/her own without a note from his/her parent or guardian. The note must be approved and signed by the principal. For More Information Contact: Tel: 318-865-5675 FAX: 318-861-7823 General Information: info@acsteere.net |
